Things to Re-read

Hey! Now, I dont want to seem nerdish, but I have about 1 million books at home. And I cant get any new ones til I throw some "little kid" books away. So, whilst I'm cleaning my tiny library, and while waiting for my new library book to come in, I've decided to re-read. But what could I read?? Not a series (too long) but not a short novel (read too fast), but a novel I've enjoyed and is about the right length? YES!!

I've got 2 of 'em. The first "The Invisible Girl" by Laura Ruby. Great if you like a tad of fantasy, mystery and things set in the future. The Invisible Girl is great, but the story can be a bit confusing if your too young, so I think about 10+ would be excellente!
My second book to re-read is "Cat & The Stinkwater War" by Kate Saunders. Fantastic for avid readers who enjoy not exactly fantasy, but magic. To be warned again, a bit confusing for 10 and under. I must admit, I was so attatched to this book (and I don't want to give it away) that I decided to name my next cat after the cat : Miss Queenie Eatsmuch (just the Queenie bit). And the front cover is to DIE for!! The part of the cat is actually soft velvety fabric.

Do you know how many great books you've read, and should read over and over and over...? You probably have HEAPS!! It's pretty much guaranteed. Hope you enjoy reading them over this holiday season. And by the way, in the side bar, vote on our poll - it'd be awsome if you did!! *and get your key boards ready for some typing... I dont wanna give anything away... ;D*
Until next time, K.xx

The story of a life and everything that comes after..

I am reading this book (The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold) and 3/4 of the way through, and not only am i ecstatic i found this book sitting on the bench, i am also close to wetting myself; i have discovered the movie will be released this December!!!

This book is about Susie Salmon, who was murdered at the age of 14, and she tells the story of how her family and friends change throught out the years, without her. How they experience all the things she never got to do, for her.

This book is moving and emotional, i have been teary the whole way through. I highly reccommend it!

Just a warning, the murder is extremely graphic, so i recommend it for advanced readers, and readers over the age of 13 at least.

Once again i absolutely loved this book and can not wait until the movie, almost as much as i cant wait until Kelbel and i are reunited !

Until later, our few fans,
Love as always,
M xxxx

Clarice Bean - CUTE

Hi! Sorry, but this is gonna be a short post. I'm in a rush.
It's been a while I know, but I wanna tell you all about some really good books called "Clarice Bean". There are lots of little books, and a 3 novelish stories.

Written by Lauren Child, who is AMAZING. Her books are really imaginitive, even the way the font is is inspringing.

This is one of my favourites (I have all 3);

They are written as if Clarice herself is talking. It's utterly charming, and very cute. The stories have a way of talking about big problems (bullying & family) in a simple, friendly, funny way. Clarice is inspired by her book hero Ruby Redfort, and its really cute to see how children look up to others, and has a lot of leadership (see Clairce Bean, Don't Look Now).

Lauren Child also has writting children's stories about Charlie and Lola, which are also very cute.

So, if you need your daily dose of fun, wit and amazingness, then you should UTTERLY buy the Clarice Bean books. The 3 novels are, Clairce Bean, Don't Look Now, Clarice Bean Spells Trouble & Utterly Me, Clarice Bean. YAY!
Until next time, K. xx

Gossip girl THE BOOK

Now, before we go ANYWHERE, my first impression of Gossip Girl the book series was "What a pathetic excuse for a book!" well, that was my first impression. Then, i read them.
For anyone who has seen the tv series, you know how awesome Gossip Girl truly is. You may think there is no point in reading the books if you have seen the first 2 seasons plus the 1st or 2nd or maybe even 3rd episodes of the third series, well if you do think that... think again! They are awesome!
They are even naughtier then the tv show, and what's more, you can imagine Blaire, Serena, Jenny, Dan, Nate and Chuck differently.
If dark haired Nate doesnt do it for you, why dont we make him blonde, though i do LOVE Nate Archibald!

If you need help finding them at the local library, look under Cecily Von Ziegsar.

I'm very sorry this was a short post, but i've been very busy with first week back at school!
Oh and warning, im going to be away all next week, so Kia shall be here as me and her and well, you know!!

Sorry once again
Love, as always,

M!

Books

lemony snicket: witty, charming & in silohette
Lemony Snicket as I'm sure you know is the author of what he calls 13 "dismal" books about the Baudelaires, Horseradish; Bitter Truths You Can't Avoid, The Beatrice Letters and Lemony Snicket; The Unauthorised Autobiography.

What i love about Lemony Snicket is his sense of humour. The way he weaves in intrusting vocabulary, quotations and a kind of "obvious" humour makes him all the more addictive to read. I also love how he disguises himself by "Lemony Snicket" and pretends his representitive is "Daniel Handler" (himself :S sorry, didnt want to give it away but....) and talks about himself like he's on the run (back of his series of unfortunate events).

I recently finished his book "Horseradish". Its full of interesting thoughts and lines about stuff that we often think, but nobody says. On the blurb it says that these things are stuff he mentions a dinner parties and in his own head.

A Series of Unfortunate Events however is a wonderful story (or collection of stories) about the "woeful" -a word which here means utterly unfortunate and sad to read- lives of the Baudelaire orphans. It's given me lots of new words to my vocabulary and has been so entertaining and humorous that I've decided to read them again.

His unauthorised Autobigraphy was more of a story about the things he found while "recording and researching" the Baudelaires lives. Filled with pictures of himself as a youngin' and hilarious songs and records of a VFD meeting, I highly reccommend reading between books, if you know what I mean.
What he says are utterly horrible and dismal books, are what I think highly entertaining and for anybody. The way he writes is spectacular! His books, I think, are for anybody to read, except those who have not yet grasped that concept at the current time. So, go embrace the dismalality (is that even a word Mr. Snicket??) of his works. Also, sorry about not writing about "The Beatrice Letters" I still have yet to find it in my local library.
Until next time, K. xx

STOLEN

                     s t o l e n

Yeah, i think it's the title that grabbed me, and the blurb, and the front cover....
Firstly, Stolen, is an awesome book, so far i'm only half way through it..but seriously i reckon it's better to blog when you're halfway through a book, so you don't give away all the secrets, and if you need to edit the post you can when your done reading the book, but anyway, a little off topic there... where was i?
Lucy Christopher has made a lovely read, the book itself only weighs a kg or two, i mean it isnt the heaviest book (physically) but emotionally, HECK, it may as well be an African Elephant or 2... I reccommend it for advanced readers over the age of 12, but seriously LOVE IT!

Okay so this book, it's about this girl, called Gemma, who is from the UK. When the book begins she is at Bangkok airport (anyone who's been there must know how busy it is), and is in a bad mood with her parents. To get away from them Gemma goes to the coffee shop to get a coffee, once she realises she doesnt have the right money to buy the coffee, her eyes meet with those of a (possible) angel, and he buys her the coffee. So this guy, Ty, who has a bit of a funny accent, talks to Gemma. She realises that he's a little too old for her but why should she care. She talks to him, and before she knows it, she has been drugged, and taken to a land of sand, heat, dirt and danger.

The book is written in the form of a longgg letter, a letter to her captor.

So far 4 stars, must i say much more than read it, now now now now now now NOWWWW!!!

The only reason i'm being so pushy is cos i know that you'll love it!

"K" Talks about her Book Moment

book moment
hi, its me, K. Yep, its been a while...so, i want to share with you my book moment.
So, most people think that reading a book for English is boring, and truth is, it is. BUT, not for me. My class is reading Goodnight Mister Tom. Its REALLY good, so go read it, NOW!! :) anyway, this is what its about;
A boy called William (Willie) was evacuated from his mother to the country as the Second World War begins. In his old home in London he was bullied, beat, and malnourished. But under the care of old, Me Tom Oakley he begins to flourish. However, his mother brings him back to London, will he ever see Mr Tom again?

Its really cute. So far I'm up to chapter 12, but its good so far. By the way I'm multi-reading, which is an advanced skill, and I would value you highly if you could do it too. So, I'm multi-reading the before mentioned and Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows, which is also just as good.

So, go out and stretch you minds beyond breaking point, venture into the unknown of the imagination and ride over the waves of the many stories written for you to read in the library, book store or peacefully at home. Read each word with love and understanding and let the plot take you over so that nothing can disturb your peacful haven of narrativity. Anyway, enough poetry, just READ A BOOK!

luv ya! K.

when you wake and find me gone

when you wake and find me gone
                                   By Maureen McCarthy

"When You Wake and Find Me Gone" is a book that is reccommended for readers over the age of 13, and is really a great book. It is about a 20 year old girl, Kit, who discovers a deep, dark and mysterious family secret, and and when she discovers the secrets and its consequences, they will change the course of her life.

The blurb reads..

So how did you meet him? I hear you asking.
Was it love at first sight? Was he a fellow teacher? Did you meet in a pub?

This might be hard to believe,
but the first time I looked into your father's eyes,
he was holding a gun to my head.....

Everything is coming together for twenty-year-old Kit. She loves her new subjects at uni, she has some great friends, her big country family is safely three hours away, and the lecturer she's been idolising for months seems interested in her. Kit's life is taking off.

But then there's an accident, the family calls Kit back, and suddenly all her certainties are shattered. Kit takes off to Ireland in search of answers. What she finds is a past dominated by violence, a present where the history still lives and a man who can help her understand..

Next time you're in a book store, i definetly reccommend picking this up! Maureen McCarthy has outdone herself in When You Wake and Find Me Gone.

Until next time,
